Cydonia oblonga
Fruit-bearing winter-hardy shrub. Has medicinal properties. The shrub is reddish, gray or almost black. Flowers are single, large, light pink, up to 5.5 cm in diameter. Blooms in May - June, fruits ripen in September - October (in the 3rd-5th year of life). Fruits are round or pear-shaped, aromatic, up to 7 cm long, weighing 60-200 g. Fruits together with aromatic skin are used to make compotes, preserves, juices, jellies, bake pies, and season meat with them. Fruits are well stored until spring and after a long period of storage become quite edible fresh.
